1.3: Discover - The Bible is Not About You

Video available in the original course

**Step in **to discover God’s Word, God’s World, and God’s Work.

Everyone longs for a sense of purpose. We take personality tests and self-inventories to gain a better understanding of our gifts, skills, and talents. We ask God for discernment concerning our life’s direction.

In our pursuit of purpose, our tendency as humans is to view all things as though we are at the center. We define purpose and significance in our own terms, living in the conscious or unconscious belief that everything revolves around us.

But what if we’re simply a small part of a much bigger, grander story?

After watching the video, take some time to debrief as a group. Use the following questions to guide your discussion. Encourage everyone to share their thoughts and listen respectfully to one another.

How would having a “God-centered perspective” rather than a “me-centered perspective” alter the way you see your family, your career, your desires, and your prayers?

What are some ways that you think Christians read through the Bible looking for “me” rather than seeing the focus on God or others (all the nations)?

What do you think about the idea of God’s primary focus being on worship or His own glory as opposed to the happiness or needs of humans?
